Hughes's Bio

Hughes

I was born in 1943 in Seattle while my father worked at Boeing on the B17 program. I lived in Spokane until age 18 when I graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1961. It was during high school that I met Sherry and we were married in 1963 while I was a student at Seattle Pacific College. We have two children, a son, Mark, and a daughter, Lisa. Each of them have three children. Mark lives in Lynchburg Virginia and Lisa lives in Everett. After graduating from SPC in 1966 I signed up for Naval Aviation Officer Training in the Navy in New Jersey where I had started Princeton Seminary. Earlier I had enlisted in the Naval Air Reserve and because of that had to go on active duty during the Vietnam War. During the War I flew off of the Kitty Hawk and the John F. Kennedy aircraft carriers as a Naval Flight Officer in the EKA3B. Along the way I picked up my MBA at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro Georgia. In Georgia we founded two churches and left there in 1980 for missionary work in South Korea. My last position in Korea was as a professor in International Trade at Han Yang University. Returning to the States in 1986 I did some selling and eventually became associate pastor of Living Way Foursquare church in Seattle. In 1991 Sherry and I founded Alderwood Foursquare Church which we merged into Word of Life in 2003. From there I retired in March of last year. We live in Everett in an older house that we love. I was raised in a Conservative Baptist Church, later joined the Presbyterian denomination. But my life was turned around completely in Georgia when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in 1972 in a house church. Sherry and I were active in a new Charismatic church in Brunswick Georgia and it was from there that I was sent out to found a church in Cobbtown and another one in Statesboro.
